If it's not Chhetri then who else ?
One will wonder that a country like India often struggles to make an impact in the game of football.
Even with a rich history in this game and commendable success till 90s we were never able to do something memorable even at the continental stage we are minions.
The most prestigious tournament in asia,
"Asian cup" is beyond our reach on successive terms.
We failed to qualify for it on many occasions, barring one opportunity where we finished as runners up in the year 1964.
Apart from that there is not much to talk about at the international level.
Our league structure was not good as often we changed the course of it to garner support and investment.
Even after the emergence of ISL in 2015 we haven't achieved the success, everyone wished for.
But, as their is darkness all around, there is one star which is always more bright at the peak.
That star here is our "Captain, Leader, Legend", Sunil Chhetri !
Born to the football loving parents, he is gracing present generation of fans with his never ending zeal to win, score, contribute and be the best.
At every stage whether in the league or at the international level in the national team, he remains the silver lining we cherish !
Having made his debut in 2005 for the national team, having played 113 matches and have scored 79 goals till now !
After the retirement of star players of the national team, he is taking forward their spirit single handedly.
With his partner Jeje injured from 2019 Asian Cup and searching for form, he is left with less options at the peril.
With change in the coaching staff and poor performance in the past 2 years have casted a dark shadow over the longevity of his career.
But his recent performances for the club and the national team have confirmed that there is no "substitute" of him as of now.
All of the tried players lack control, composure in front of the goal and are bad even during their best form.
Chhetri overpowers them easily by doing everything which we expect from the 20 year olds but he is 37, still the best.
The chances of winning the current SAFF CHAMPIONSHIP, depends a lot on him and also the job of the manager.
Having saved the team from embarrassing defeats depicting how "he is the soul of the team".
The scoring is again amazing, from connecting most of the headers, ball control and passing, he is guiding the team well.
Many people have casted doubts on his need in the team and asserted that the team played better without him.
But you can only like "the night without the moon on certain dates but ultimately it's the intangible part of the time frame"
Now, after scoring 4 in 4 matches all the doubts of his critics must have fallen like the tears of joy, as all cherish the win against Maldives like a hopeless man getting the real pond instead of the mirage.
He continues to be the lagacy whom we were proud of, we are and we will in the future too.
A star of it's own born rarely and cherished to live along while others fate is not similar while the wishes were made of their fall.
In the coming months we will definitely see a different aspect of his footballing career, as a fine wine may make us droll over it again and again.
Even though the habits can be bad but who cares when it is the most aspect about the "Indian football".
The coming AFC ASIAN CUP qualifiers will be the tricky affair, having made to the last edition, failing this time will cast serious negativity of the Indian football sphere.
Though there is hardship to counter, we as Indians always did better and probably this time too fate is in our reach.
And continuing to what he did in last few matches and a decade of football, we can on him to do more and make us feel proud.
As i said before, "If it's not Chhetri then who else" !
🙏❤️
