STEPHEN CONSTANTINE AS A TECHNICAL DIRECTOR ? WHY NOT!

The name of Stephan Constantine is not new for the Indian football fans.

He was the manager of the senior men's team, from 2002-2005 and then 2015-19.

Having held the term for good number of years, he saw the Indian football system transition from one system to another.
For example, NFL to the I LEAGUE, then I LEAGUE TO ISL.
A lot have changed in with the emergence of ISL, certainly the players have better facilities and better wages.

What makes him Ideal for the job?
1. Experience.
His experience separates him from the rest, having part of each continental teams.
He is aware of different sets of systems, from Europe to Africa, he was part of many leagues, teams.

He is aware of the challenges and the the ways of overcoming them is known to him.
Being the FIFA coach instructor himself, he is very well known to the methods of delivering the progress.

The awareness of Indian football, gives him an advantage too.

2. Know the problems Indian football faces.
We often accused him for being silent to the questions of the fans and of the media but he know the Indian football completely.
The players, their strengths and weaknesses, is better known to him.
We can use this experience of his, to enrich the coming generation of the players.

Our objectives, playing style is changing, in this scenario, he can adjust the system from lower age group teams to the senior team for getting better results.

3. Aware of the country geography, the clubs and league history.
This is one the main point, because to be successful for years, every club, every state association needs to taken in to the confidence.

The emergence of ISL clubs and the I League clubs were during his tenure.
He know, how leagues can be improved to establish a strong pool of players.
He know the power houses of Indian football, the structural challenges clubs from the north east are facing.

To sustain them, he can add valuable inputs and also he can help in taking forward new clubs like Kerala United FC, SDFC etc.

4 Organization of Baby leagues, age group tournaments, junior teams.
Being the part of different leagues, also as an FIFA instructor, he know the ideal conditions for the continuous development.
For this, the next generation should be guided best.

Under his guidance, the coaching team of Alex Ambrose, Bibiano, Mahesh Gawli and others can bring best out of the players.

His connection around the world will help us finding competitions to play in and improve.


The coaching manual, regular updates and it's reporting will be a good step.
As a TD, he can definitely deal with certain challenges which are hampering our young players.


He definitely missed many things during his tenure, and being aware of the gaps, ge surely can fill them with his experience.
The selection of coach, proper understanding of his philosophy, can be scrutinized with his valuable inputs.

So, from all the angles, he is the right person to take forward this job.
Hope this opportunity shall come in the bear future, and we see him being involved in the Indian football setup.
