50 could have been 100 !
The milestone breacher, our own Sunil Chhettri, did exactly that last night.
He became the first person to score 50 goals in the top tier league, ISL!
The mark is spectacular as he was without the goals for first 10 matches, his critics to his admirers, everyone was aware that he will strike back.
He is now at 4 goals, in last 6 matches.
But the point is, why only 50 and not 100 ?
This raises the question on number of matches he only got to play in the league.
Compare it with top players around the world, many have scored such number of goals in the single season.
This shows the starking difference between us and them.
Only 16 on average, half of the players from other leagues.
This automatically reduces the chances of contribution.
This also shows how much we have lost of him, and of the other players due to the short league.
Had the league was longer, matches he got to play were more, this could have been his 100th goal in the league itself.
Chances required to use the full potential!
The 3 month league is never an option for the sleeping gaint to awake and do something brilliant in the world of football.
It will take more than 6 momths to demoralise the "Khumbhkarana" in the federation.
More players will get chances, they will play more matches, improve and establish themselves.
The other benefiter of this would be the national team itself.
Comparison between the different leagues and number of matches in the Asian confederation.
J league having 20 teams, matches played by every team is 38
K league, having 12 teams still teams get 33 matches. They have maintained the system in most profiting way game wise.
Saudi pro league, 16 teams and 30 matches.
A league, every teams plays 26 matches.
Apart from these numbers, they have cup competitions whereas in India, happening of the league is itself often doubtable.
League is the only medicine which can be improved to become the best cure for the ailing players.
Minimum 30 matches, should always be the benchmark.
The league for 30 matches each team will require good number of players, not only the players but fit too.
These players will help in the growth of the Indian football more, comparatively to the established but non fit players.
This will create the opportunity for the league to drive, with surely the international windows coming in to play.
Federation can test these players during friendlies and then improvise.
Having tested players will help us in doing better, during the Asian qualifiers.
Which is the ultimate goal for us, direct qualification for the Asian Cup.
As the news of addition of two new teams and also if not but to play minimum 27 matches is the good thing we can look forward to.
We also hope, that Sunil and other players more towards their greater goals i.e. 50s and 100s.
